This is 31

A couple of weekends ago, four of us headed out to Bears Ears National Monument for a 90-mile bikepacking loop to celebrate my 31st birthday. If you’d asked my high school self what I might be doing on my 31st birthday, 1) I would have said, “Ew gross, 31 is ancient” and 2) I definitely would NOT have responded with carrying three days worth of food and camping equipment on bikes 90 miles through the desert.

Feeling even marginally athletic is new to me. I never in a million years thought I would actively look forward to sufferfests and here I am, regularly pushing the edge of what my body can do.

I also wrongly assumed your 20s were the time to do silly athletic endeavors and thought I’d missed my window for this kind of outdoor adventuring. I’m so glad I was wrong. I hope this video inspires you to get out there and explore the world by human power at any age.
